Group Ministries

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is responsible for the care of the altar area of the church, the candles, the paraments, the banners, the baptismal font, and the Pastor’s robes and stolls and the acolyte robes. We decorate for Easter and Thanksgiving, and adorn the altar with flowers for Confirmation, Ascension, Reformation, and any special occasions. We help serve Lenten meals and Advent meals, in addition to other special occasions. We also have spiritual gifts available for purchase in the church office.

Members of the Altar Guild are on teams and each team serves once every 8 weeks. We have 2 meetings a year; February and November.

If you are interested in serving on the Altar Guild Ministry, please call Wendy Wellnitz at 920-583-3460.

The Quilters’ Group meets from approximately mid-September until May on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 11:00 am in the St. John’s Fellowship Hall. We are always looking for more people to share in our quilting fellowship. (If you can tie your shoelaces, we can use your time and talents.)

Donations of bed sheets, blankets, mattress pads, pillow cases, material, thread, rick rack, and bias tape are always appreciated.

Sunday School

Jesus loves the little children and so does St. John’s. We offer a structured, but fun, Bible-centered class that children enjoy very much.

Sunday School is offered during the school year to children in preschool through 6th grade on Sunday morning from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and coincides with the Adult Bible Class.

Our Sunday School curriculum is kid-friendly and creative, offering:
• Christ-centered lessons they can identify with and apply to their lives.
• Age-appropriate artwork to help them grasp Biblical concepts.
• A unified, Biblical theme for all age levels.
• A wide variety of activities, games, music, and videos that support Bible lessons and encourage students in their personal relationship with Christ.
At every level, this interactive Sunday School program helps students make a solid connection between God’s word and everyday life.

Children are asked to register for classes by contacting the church office.

Women in Mission

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League

The primary purpose of the Women in Mission is to provide aid and promote the charitable and mission work of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month, September through May. Every other month, devotion is shared with the group and our “mites” are collected for mission distribution. “Shut-ins” are visited throughout the year by members of the Women In Mission and the “Sunshine Girl” sends out cards of hope and caring wishes to members of the congregation. Members assist with preparing and serving food for funerals and Lenten dinners and for other various needs of the congregation. The Women In Mission also host an annual chili dinner each November.

The LWML is an organization for women of the church body who provide services in honor of their Lord. All women of St. John’s Lutheran Church and School, who volunteer their talents, time and service, are part of this very important mission team.

All confirmed women of the congregation are invited to join the Dorcas Society for monthly meetings and activities, and to join in our service to the Lord. Contact Jan Luebke at 920-387-5896 for more information.
